Fairwinds home a leader in promoting green initiatives
Fairwinds Marketing Manager Marian Slayter says the Fairwinds community is a leader when it comes to promoting green initiatives and she says more and more people are jumping on the green bandwagon.
"The awareness over the last year has grown dramatically," she says.
The Fairwinds environmental crusade kicked into high gear a year ago with the opening of the Green Solutions Demonstration Home.
The innovative show home is a high performance residence built to exceed minimum requirements of the building code, especially in the areas of environmental quality and resource efficiency. Smart home technology offers the ongoing benefits of energy conservation and savings year-round on heating, cooling and electricity.
Slayter says making more informed and conscious choices is what the Green Solutions Demonstration Home is all about.
"We are dedicated to environmental stewardship and we want people and builders to buy into the future."
She says they encourage all Fairwinds residents to take their personal environmental stewardship seriously.
Because water consumption triples during the summer months the Fairwinds Community Association has teamed up with the Regional District of Nanaimo's Team Water Smart program.
The primary goal of the program is to reduce water waste and bring a general awareness to water conservation issues in the area.
