Jon Lefebure going green at home
Jon Lefebure has his sights set on living green.
Though the former North Cowichan Mayor was defeated this election, Lefebure continues to practise green initiatives.
From installing low-flush toilets, to purchasing hybrid cars, forming an environmental committee, hosting environmental forums, reducing backyard burning, creating an anti-idling campaign, and setting the Municipality's sights on being carbon neutral by 2012, Lefebure presided over a council that was determined to lead the way for the environment.
It's a part Lefebure continues to play at home with his family.
He is actively involved with a local group called the Carbon Busters.
Taking the lead from the group's various steps to reduce carbon footprints, Lefebure and his family have already made some progress and also have plans for the future.
"We identified a number of things we planned to do to reduce our carbon footprint," Lefebure said. "We've changed our main vehicle to a Toyota Prius."
When he and his family have to drive, that car is number one, he says. "I also believe Toyota is in the process of making a plug-in (electric) retrofit Prius too," he said. "We're waiting for that."
Lefebure's son, with his friends, has also gotten into the habit of taking the bus to the pool and back. Lefebure is also working on their house. "We're doing a massive renovation putting in as many green things as we can. We had an old oil furnace here and that's completely gone."
In the future, he'd also like to install a solar hot water heating system to tie in with the infloor heating system that's also on his wish list, not to mention the clothesline in his family's future.
