Carbon Neutral Action Reports: Government of B.C. – Ministries and Agencies

The B.C. Government began taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in early 2007 by developing a Carbon Neutral Program under Shared Services B.C. Given its role as a shared service provider with responsibility for buildings, fleet, information technology, procurement and supplies, the Ministry has the expertise to identify and implement organization-wide programs to reduce energy and product consumption.

2009 Highlights from this sector:

  • 100% of ministries and agencies are installing web-conferencing software
  • 100% are installing power management software which shuts down computers outside of regular business hours
  • 100% are encouraging commuting by foot, bicycle, carpool or public transit
  • 100% are creating green, sustainability, energy conservation or climate action teams with executive endorsement

Many public sector organizations already have existing sustainability reporting mechanisms that provide significant detail on their programs, so the Carbon Neutral Action Reports were designed to meet regulatory requirements without requiring duplicate reporting.
