Launched in January 2011, the LiveSmart BC: Small Business Program was designed to help small businesses improve their energy efficiency and reduce their energy costs through free Business Energy Advisor (BEA) services, and improved access to efficient technologies and utility product incentives.  BEAs worked directly with eligible businesses to identify potential energy and money saving opportunities, such as lighting, hot water, heating and ventilation improvement.

Program Achievements

  • LiveSmart BC: Small Business Program served over 14,000 businesses.  Those businesses have saved over 150 GWh of electricity, and more than $13 million in ongoing utility costs.  These are impressive results that all British Columbians can be proud of!
  • LiveSmart Champion:  In 2012, twelve BC Small Businesses received up to $25,000 each in order to make their creative energy-saving solutions a reality.  Read the official announcement to learn more about their project.
  • Success Stories from Businesses.  Learn about the success of other businesses that have learned how to manage energy efficiently and to reduce the waste in their operations.

Going Forward

BC Hydro and FortisBC continue to offer programs and resources that support small and medium businesses as they seek energy efficiency upgrades.  Below you will find web links to current programs.  Please note that these programs can change periodically, and you can visit the BC Hydro and FortisBC websites regularly for updates:

In addition, the Province is working with BC Hydro and Fortis BC to further energy efficiency incentives.  In December 2013, BC Hydro’s 10 Year Plan was announced, and it includes $1.6 billion for Power Smart programming to help homeowners and businesses save energy and money.
