Why Do You (Don't You) Bike to Work Week

Bike to Work Week 2012 in B.C. takes place across the province May 28 - June 2. Join thousands of fellow cyclists along hundreds of bike lanes, cycle trails and bicycle routes at dozens of communities' events.

While the health, wellness, transportation*, green behaviour and fun reasons to take part basically speak for themselves, we're curious what your reason to (or not to) bike to work might be.
*(e.g. commuting and transportation account for one-third of our GHG emissions in B.C. - cycling not only removes one tailpipe's emissions from the atmosphere, but can also reduce congestion making vehicle traffic move more efficiently).

Plug-in B.C. - Ready, Set, Charge!

LiveSmart BC is happy to introduce our guest blogger: Andrea Mercer.
Andrea is the B.C. Climate Action Secretariat's Clean Transportation Emissions Analyst.

Chances are, if you haven't yet seen an electric vehicle silently travelling on British Columbia's roadways, you will soon. Just last week, I was passed by a family of four driving a baby blue Nissan Leaf while on my bike, and it brought a smile to my face - the future is here! I purposely rode behind it for a couple of blocks - it was such a great feeling to ride a bike behind a car with no tailpipe! I also have had the good fortune of driving a Tesla Roadster, a high end luxury pure electric vehicle, but that is a blog topic for another day...

Since launching the Clean Energy Vehicle Program in December, 116 CEVs have been sold or leased to British Columbians.  Through the CEVforBC™ point of sale incentive program (administered by the New Car Dealers Association of British Columbia), British Columbians are eligible for up to $5,000 off the pre-tax sticker price for qualifying CEVs which include electric vehicles (e.g. Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi iMieV, Tesla Roadster, Smart Canada/Mercedes SmartforTwo Electric), Extended Range Electric Vehicles (e.g. Chevrolet Volt, Fisker Karma), and Plug in Hybrid Vehicles (e.g. Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid).  But enough about the vehicles... I was asked to blog about charging.

Clean Energy VehicleElectric Vehicle Charging 101

In true David Letterman fashion, I originally planned to give a Top 10 EV Charging Q+A format, however it became obvious that 10 was way too much content for a blog, so I had shortened to 5, and finally to a Top 3...
